'79 sweater
This is a sweater with a story. My late grandmother, who was very dear to my heart and we were very close, was a very talented knitter. She crocheted and embroidered masterpieces as well. She knitted so many beautiful pieces for me when I was a kid, and later all kinds of wonderful things for my children. She was my biggest fan and supporter when I started knitting in the fall of 2009. This pattern is a modernized upgrade from a sweater she knitted for me in the year 1979 and the photo of me attached (on the last page) shows. I remember so vividly how happy I was, the sweater was so pretty and beautifully purple and, as a bonus, my grandmother knitted a similar one for herself so we were matching. As far as I know she did not use any pattern (she usually did not) she just started and out came a sweater or another piece of clothing. The sweater has unfortunately been lost, but the photo is not and I used it to modernize and write this pattern. The sweater is oversized with a turtleneck, worked from top-down. Garter stitch in the yoke and a stripe down the sleeves. With classic raglan increases and a cable in front of the body.
I recommend reading the pattern before you start.
