Alpa beret
Alpa beret is simple and easy to make. Hats shaped like this are often connected with Spain or French artists. When I was a teen the beret was very popular and we called it ‘spanjóla’ which is difficult to translate but the meaning is ‘something Spanish‘. The beret is worked top down, in the round on double pointed needles to begin with, but later you can switch to a small circular needle. Included in this pattern are two types of berets, the slightly bulkier one, worked on 5 mm (size 8 US) needles and the delicate one with eyelet lace increase, worked with 4 mm (size 6 US) needles.
